Recommended iPad Settings

NOTE: For IOS 11.3 and above

To prepare your iPad for patient use, it is recommended that you disable multitasking gestures and access to the Control Center and enable Guided Access to prevent users from using your iPad devices inappropriately. The following sections describe how to configure each change.

Disabling Multitasking Gestures

These gestures are the gestures you use with four or five fingers to pinch to the Home Screen, swipe up to the App Switcher and swipe left or right between apps. Unfortunately, patients can accidentally invoke those gestures thus closing YAPI unexpectedly. Disabling this feature prevents that from happening.

  1. Open Settings on the iPad.

  2. Go to General > Multitasking & Dock.

  3. Disable Gestures.

Disabling the Control Center

The Control Center is what you see when you swipe up from the bottom edge of your iPad screen. The Control Center contains controls that allows you to quickly access iPad options such as take a picture, adjust brightness, open the timer and more. Disabling the Control Center prevents users from using it.

  1. Open Settings on your iPad

  2. Go to Control Center > Customize Controls.

  3. Remove all the controls under the INCLUDE heading by clicking on the red circle next to each control then on the Remove button next to the control.

Using Guided Access

You can use iPad Guided Access Feature to completely lock your iPad so users stay on the YAPI app. iPad Guided Access feature temporarily limits your device to a single app preventing users to shut down the currently running app, and switch to other applications. Additionally, Guided Access feature allows you to disable access to the Home screen and disable all hardware buttons.

To enable Guided Access:

  1. Open Settings on your iPad.

  2. Go to General > Accessibility.

  3. Scroll down till you get to the end. Tap the Guided Access button.

  4. Enable Guided Access.

  5. Enable Accessibility Shortcut. That will allow you to Triple-Click the Home button to turn Guided Access on and off.

  6. Set a Passcode:

    1. Tap on Passcode Settings.

    2. Tap on Set Guided Access Passcode.

Two pop-ups will appear, one after the other, prompting you to enter a passcode. Setting a passcode controls the use of Guided Access and prevents someone from leaving an active session.

To start a Guided Access session:

  1. Launch YAPI and Triple-click the Home button. A toolbar will appear at the bottom.

  2. Adjust settings for the session:

    1. Set Touch to On.

    2. Tap the Hardware Buttons Options button.

    3. Disable both Sleep/Wake Button and Volume Button.

    4. Enable Motion.

  3. Tap Start on the top to start the Guided Access session.

To end a Guided Access session:

  1. Triple-click the Home

  2. Enter the Guided Access passcode to exit the Guided Access Mode
