Editing an Existing Text Template
Texting patients using Yapi Leap (our new web app)? 🤔 In that case, looks like you're in the wrong place. Instead, go to the corresponding topic in our Leap Help Center:
Within YAPI, you can edit the text templates you send manually and the templates used by YAPI's automated systems to personalize your patients' experience. Follow the instructions below to edit any existing templates you already have in YAPI.
Tip: Need to create a new text template? See Creating a Custom Text Template instead.

Tips for Text Templates
Keep Texts to 160 Characters or Less - Some carriers (like T-Mobile and Sprint) split longer texts into pieces. We recommend keeping your messages short and sweet so they stay within a single text. You can use the character counter in the bottom left corner of the text editor to guide you.
Add an Emoji - If you want to give your text a personalized touch, try including an emoji using our emoji codes! For a full list, check out Adding Emojis to Text Messages.
Personalize Texts with Merge Tags - For texts used in YAPI's automated systems like recall reminders, appointment reminders, and New Patient Welcome messages, you can include merge tags (codes with double brackets around them like [[PHONE]]) to pull information like the patient's name or your practice's phone number into the text. For more information about adding merge tags, see Personalizing Automated Text Templates with Merge Tags.
Important! Merge tags are supported for reminder and automated New Patient Welcome templates only. If your template isn't one of these, skip the merge tags.Â

Editing a Text Template
-
From the YAPI Dashboard, click Setup & Manage  and select Manage Documents and Templates.
-
When prompted, enter your YAPI password.
-
In the Manage Documents and Templates window, navigate to the Mobile Templates tab.
-
From the list, select the text template you want to edit, then click Edit.
-
In the Edit window that pops up, edit your text. Â
Warning! If you're editing an appointment or recall reminder template, DO NOT remove anything between {SCHED} and {/SCHED} or any of the following merge tags (the words within double brackets): [[APPOINTMENTDATE]] [[APPOINTMENTTIME]], [[APPOINTMENTLENGTH]], [[APPOINTMENTPROVIDER]], [[VTEXT]], [[LINK]], [[LINK1]] or [[LINK_SCHED]]. Â Removing these will keep your patient from getting the correct information and links about their appointment or about scheduling a recall.
-
Click Save.
Note: The HTML Edit and Font +/- buttons are no longer supported features and using them won't change the appearance of your text.Â
