What Is the Routing Slip?
The Routing Slip (also known as Checkout Notes) is a digital replacement for paper routing slips and gathers information that other team members may need to complete a patient's visit. The Routing Slip window pops up automatically when you move a patient from an operatory to the Check-Out Area and again when you dismiss a patient from the Dashboard.
While the left side of the slip is completely customizable, the default includes checkboxes for:
- New Visit (what procedures a patient should be scheduled for next)
- Dispense (items that were or need to be given to the patient before they leave)
- Special Instructions
- Referrals
- Patient Concerns
There is also a space for additional notes, a place to add a To Do for a team member, an option to email documents to the patient, and a spot to add your patient to the Care Call List so a team member can reach out to them later.
Why Use the Routing Slip?
It's a Great Communication Tool - The Routing Slip helps you provide your team with the information they need to check patients out quickly and smoothly and patients notice! And because you can customize it, you can tailor the Routing Slip to the needs of your team.
It Saves Paper - Replacing your paper routing slip, this digital version saves waste while keeping your patients' information safe: no need for extra paper and no need to shred it when you're done.
It Saves Time - Because the Routing Slip automatically pops up when you check out a patient, it's always there for you when you need it. You can also paste a patient's Routing Slip notes into your practice management software when you check the patient out or access them later in the Daily Activity Report.

Quick Notes
When moving a patient from an operatory to the Check-Out Area, this section displays a list of checkboxes to mark and make notes about:
- What procedures a patient should be scheduled for next (New Visit)
- Items that were or need to be given to the patient before they leave (Dispense)
- Special Instructions
- Referrals
- Patient Concerns
This entire section is customizable.
Notes
This section is a space to add additional notes about the patient and/or their visit.
To Do
This section allows staff to add a To Do for themselves or for another member of the team.
Email Documents
This section allows staff to email PDF documents like post-op instructions to the patient.
Care Call List
This section allows staff to add the patient to your practice's Care Call List, reminding them to follow up with the patient on a specific day.
Seeds
Clicking Seeds allows staff to add the patient to an Interest List for future mailings. For example, if a patient mentions they're interested in teeth whitening, a team member can add them to a teeth whitening Interest List and when your practice offers a special on that procedure, you can email an offer specifically to the patients on that Interest List.
Report Exception
This feature is no longer supported.
Cancel
Clicking this button closes the Routing Slip without saving any content that's been added.
Spell Check
Clicking this button spell checks the content in the Notes section.

Clicking this button saves the Routing Slip without sending the patient to the Check-Out Area in the Dashboard.
Tip: This option is great for back office team members who prefer to make notes as they go, rather than when the patient is on their way out.
