Uninstalling YAPI

If you've cancelled your service with YAPI, you'll need to uninstall the program from your server and workstations.  We recommend an IT professional complete the uninstallation process on your server but if your practice doesn't have an IT, we've included more detailed instructions for non-IT professionals as well.

Uninstalling YAPI on Your Server

Uninstalling YAPI on Your Server (for IT Professionals)

If you are the IT for a practice that has ended service with YAPI, use the instructions below to uninstall YAPI on the practice server.

  1. On the server, double-click the open the YAPI Service Manager icon on the desktop.

  2. In the YAPI Service Manager window that pops up, click Stop.  Then, close the window.

  3. Access Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel of the server machine and right-click to Uninstall:

    • YAPI
    • YAPI Writer (novaPDF OEM 7.7 printer)
    • YService

      If YService isn't present, you'll need to manually remove the service.  Open a command prompt and enter “sc delete YService” to delete YService.

      Note: On some servers, the service might be called YService2 or YService3. If you encounter an error running the prior command, then make sure the service name you are entering is correct by finding it in the Task Manager > Services tab.
  4. Remove the sharing properties from the YService and YAPI Install folders:

    1. Navigate to the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Practical Dental Solutions\ directory and right-click on the YService folder.

    2. Select Properties and click into the Sharing tab.

    3. Select Advanced Sharing and uncheck the Share this folder checkbox, click Apply.

    4. Repeat for the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Practical Dental Solutions\YAPI Install folder.

  5. Clean up the remaining files:

    1. Delete the entire %LOCALAPPDATA%\Practical Dental Solutions directory.

    2. Delete the entire %LOCALAPPDATA%\Practical_Dental_Solutions directory.

    3. Delete the entire C:\YAPI directory.

    4. Remove any shortcuts or old plugin files related to YAPI on the desktop.

    5. Empty the Recycle Bin.

  6. In the Task Manager, verify that YService is no longer listed in the Services tab.

  7. Proceed to Uninstalling YAPI on Workstations to remove the YAPI client from each workstation in the practice.

 

Uninstalling YAPI on Your Server (for Non-IT Professionals)

If you are not an IT professional and don't one that can uninstall YAPI for you, use the instructions below to uninstall YAPI on your server.

  1. On your server computer, double-click the open the YAPI Service Manager icon on your desktop.

  2. In the YAPI Service Manager window that pops up, click Stop.  Then, close the window.

  3. Click the Windows Start button Screen_Shot_2022-04-22_at_10.53.57_AM.png to open the Start menu for your computer and click the Settings icon Screen_Shot_2022-04-22_at_11.01.15_AM.png.  Then, select Apps.

  4. In the Apps & Features list, scroll down to find select YAPI.  Click on YAPI and select Uninstall.

  5. Repeat the uninstall process in Step 4 for:

    • YAPI Writer (novaPDF OEM 7.7 printer)
    • YService

    If you don't see YService in the Apps & Features list, you'll need to manually uninstall it:

    1. On your keyboard, type Windows Key + R.  Then, type in "cmd" and click OK.

    2. In the command window, enter “sc delete YService” to delete YService and press Enter.

      Note: On some servers, YService might be called YService2 or YService3. If you see an error like this when running the sc delete YService command above:

      open your Windows Task Manager and select the Services tab.  Scroll down to the bottom of the list to find the correct name for your YService.  Then, go back to the the command window and enter "sc delete YService" and replace "YService" with the name you found: Screen_Shot_2022-04-22_at_12.21.50_PM.png
  6. Remove the sharing properties from the YService and YAPI Install folders:

    1. Click the File Explorer icon Screen_Shot_2022-04-22_at_1.52.42_PM.png in your Windows toolbar.  Copy the following and paste it into the navigation bar:

    2. Right-click on the YService folder and select Properties:

    3. In the Sharing tab, click Advanced Sharing.

    4. Uncheck the Share this folder checkbox.  Then click Apply, then Close.

    5. Now copy the following and paste it into the navigation bar:

      %LOCALAPPDATA%\Practical Dental Solutions\YAPI Install

    6. Repeat steps b through d above for the YAPI Install folder.

  7. Remove additional YAPI-related files:

    1. Copy and paste the following into the navigation bar: 

      %LOCALAPPDATA%

    2. Scroll down to find the Practical Dental Solutions and Practical_Dental_Solutions folders.  Delete both of them.

    3. Click into the navigation bar and type C:\.  Then tap Enter.

    4. Find the YAPI folder and delete it.

  8. Remove any shortcuts related to YAPI on your desktop by right-clicking each desktop icon and selecting Delete.

  9. Empty the computer's Recycle Bin.

  10. Click the Windows Start icon Screen_Shot_2022-04-22_at_10.53.57_AM.png and open the Windows Task Manager.  Click the Services tab and scroll down to the bottom to verify that YService is no longer listed there.

  11. Proceed to Uninstalling YAPI on Workstations to remove YAPI from each of your computer workstation.

 

Uninstalling YAPI on Workstations

  1. Click the Windows Start button Screen_Shot_2022-04-22_at_10.53.57_AM.png to open the Start menu for your computer and click the Settings icon Screen_Shot_2022-04-22_at_11.01.15_AM.png.  Then, select Apps.

  2. In the Apps & Features list, scroll down to find select YAPI.  Click on YAPI and select Uninstall.

  3. Repeat the uninstall process in Step 4 for YAPI Writer (novaPDF OEM 7.7 printer) if it appears in the Apps & Features list.
