Setting YAPI to Start and Shut Down Automatically (Auto Start)
Instead of having to do it yourself each day, you can set YAPI to start up and/or shut down automatically on each workstation. That way, YAPI is ready for you in the morning and can shut itself down after you leave, saving you extra steps at the end of the day. To learn how, check out the options below.

Setting YAPI to Start Automatically
There are two options for configuring YAPI to autostart each morning: YAPI's native autostart setting (for computers that stay on overnight) and Windows' Startup settings (for computers that are turned off at the end of each work day). For instructions, select the option that best applies to your workstation:
While YAPI has a native Autostart setting, it only works for computers that are on at the set start time. If you shut down your computer each day, we we recommend you configure Windows Startup instead to open YAPI upon startup each morning:
- Minimize the windows on your workstation so that you can see the YAPI icon on your desktop.
- From the Windows Desktop, press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard.
- In the Run window that pops up, type "shell:startup", then click OK:
Tip: If your computer has multiple users, type "shell:common startup" instead. This requires administrative rights, so if you don't have admin rights on this computer, ask someone who does to sign in to Windows. This opens the Startup window:
- Right-click the YAPI icon on your desktop and select Copy:
- Right-click into the Startup window and select Paste. Then, close the window.
- Restart your computer to make sure that YAPI opens upon startup.
If your computer is always on, you can use YAPI's native Autostart feature to open YAPI each morning:
-
If your YAPI Dashboard is currently open, close it.
-
Right-click the YAPI icon on your desktop and select Run as administrator:
-
From the YAPI Dashboard, click Setup and Manage and select Local Setup.
-
In the Local Configuration window that appears, navigate to the Autostart section and click Enable:
- Next to Start At, set the time that you want YAPI to open automatically each morning:
- Click Save.
Setting a Shutdown Time for YAPI
Important! YAPI automatically shuts down on all workstations when it completes housekeeping overnight. Only complete the following steps if you need YAPI to shut down on workstations earlier than that time. (This is not common.)
To set an automatic shutdown time for YAPI on your workstation:
-
From the YAPI Dashboard, click Setup and Manage and select Local Setup.
-
In the Local Configuration window that appears, navigate to the Autoshutdown section and click Enable:
-
Next to Shutdown At, set the time that you want YAPI to open automatically shut down each day:
-
Click Save.
